The following formula holds: $$\tanh \left( \dfrac{z}{2} \right) = \sqrt{ \dfrac{\cosh(z)-1}{2} },$$ where $\tanh$ denotes hyperbolic tangent and $\cosh$ denotes hyperbolic cosine.
